Campesinos (1975)
Peasants
Spanish | 16mm digitised in 2K | B&W with Sound | 51 min
Why and how do peasant and indigenous communities pass from social submission to a process of organisation? This question drove Marta Rodriguez and Jorge Silva to produce Campesinos. A masterful and poetic portrait with Brechtian re-enactments of working conditions on colonial coffee plantations in 1930s Colombia, the documentary is at once a call to self-organisation and revolt, and a lucid analysis of indigenous struggle and the significance of land.
