Sim Chi Yin in conversation with Ute Meta Bauer

The event will be in English and will be followed by a brunch reception hosted by the Ambassador of Singapore in honour of the Singapore participation at the 17th Istanbul Biennial.

How is the memory of war shaped by the colonial archive? What lies in the gaps and silences in the official record of any conflict? Using the case study of her project ‘One Day We’ll Understand’, which uses multiple modes of archiving and counter-archiving, Sim will explore methods of making memory — both public and personal — and of contesting historiographies in ways that ‘complicates the line between history and imagination’.
