This joint work of the INLAND in collaboration with Boğatepe Environment and Life Association (ÇevDer) and Yerküre Cooperative focuses on Boğatepe village located in Kars. Boğatepe is an important cultural heritage site for cheesemaking that brings together Swiss, German, Turkish, Kurdish, Molokan, Armenian, Greek, and Georgian communities’ stories of migration and exile. In addition to keeping these commercial and subsistence cheesemaking traditions alive, the village also encompasses complicated worlds of animal husbandry (mera hayvancılığı).

The project mirrors production processes performed both at the village of Boğatepe, Kars and at Müze Gazhane, Istanbul, aiming to reflect on the self-organisation of local communities as a way to learn and confront socio-environmental (and agro-pastoral) challenges, and to reconsider past and future visions on rural empowerment. Some of the materials and tools used during the learning-by-doing processes will be present at the workshop to be held in Müze Gazhane. The workshop will also host women of Boğatepe. The traditional arts and techniques emerging from the everyday worlds of mera hayvancılığı will be shared and created with the participants, with a distinct emphasis on woolcrafts.
