Ufuk Barış Mutlu (b. 1993, Istanbul) is a media artist and a multidisciplinary designer based in Istanbul. He graduated from Istanbul Bilgi University Visual Communication Department. From 2015 onward, he has been working on media artworks and installations inspired by light, optical illusions, mechanical movements and industrial materials. On the other side, he is conducting visual communication design projects under the roof of his studio, StudioMutlu. His personal and collective works have been displayed on a number of festivals and venues such as Contemporary Istanbul, Corridor Project Space Amsterdam, Mamut Art Project, Philipps-Universität Marburg, Sónar+D, Zorlu Performing Arts Center, whiteBOX München and Fiera Libro Arte Torino. In 2016, he published his first book, Axe, Scissors, Hammer, a design research project on Anatolian hand tools. In 2017, he was selected as a resident artist for the British Council’s AltCity Istanbul. As of 2020, he is a guest artist in the Istanbul Biennial Production and Research Programme. His works and his interviews are featured on several publications like Design Unlimited, Istanbul Design Biennial’s “Design Visits”, Popular Science and CI Mag.
