SAHA Studio was founded in 2019 by SAHA Association, which supports artists, curators and writers from Turkey working in the visual arts. On a repurposed 350 square-metre site in the Beyoğlu district, SAHA Studio allows artists to continue their work by providing them with a co-working space, curatorial support and a budget for research, production, exhibition and presentation. Contributing to the enhancement of dialogue in the art scene, the programme hosts over ten participants in two separate terms each year.
For the 17th Istanbul Biennial, SAHA Studio opens its doors to the Biennial audience on certain days, serving as a venue for the sharing and discussion of ongoing artistic production at SAHA Studio Talks. A close-up view of the creative process greets audiences seeking a deeper connection with art. Those who knew Beyoğlu in the 1990s will remember SAHA Studio as Alt Kemancı, a seminal concert venue for the rising alternative music scene. It was closed in the mid-2000s and renovated as SAHA Studio after some years of hosting temporary exhibitions.
