Arahmaiani (b. 1961, Bandung, Indonesia) is an artist based in Yogyakarta. Her projects employ environmentalism as their focal point, and are inextricably entangled with concerns about global Islam, feminism and traditional local culture. Performance and installation are her media of political and environmental activism, through which she progressively articulates the importance of collaboration as a strategy of reparation. Her recent solo exhibitions include Violence No More, Haus am Dom, Frankfurt, Germany (2015); Shadow of The Past, Tyler Rollins Gallery, New York, USA (2016); The Past Has Not Passed, MACAN Modern & Contemporary Art Museum, Jakarta, Indonesia (2018); Politics of Disaster: Gender, Environment & Religion, Parte Arte Pivente, Turin, Italy (2020).
