İlyas Odman is a choreographer and performance artist whose interests lie in creating layers through what is happening to a specific body on a specific space, and the relationships between the layers and narrations created by the body and space. He is also a storyteller and an activist who prefers collaborative work and possibilities, as is the case with the collective Copycats he is part of. For the Fellowship program, his research proposal asks how could “the poetic structure” be the hidden, pre-linguistic code laying beyond the meaning of the text, which nevertheless still reminds us of our primitive existence still latent in poetry. What is the physicality of “poetry”? Can we achieve, or talk about, an international and timeless mathematical structure undergirding poetry? Or a performative statement achieved by a specific state of mind by using poetic structures? His work has been showcased in FLUX / Marina Abramovic, Sakıp Sabancı Museum, İstanbul, 2020; Atlas Unlimited, Netwerk Aaalst, 2019; Tanz im August, Sophiensale, Berlin, 2018; Blob, MDT, Stockholm, 2017; Oggie niente, CNDC, Paris, 2016; Glassmen, Julidans, Amsterdam, 2015.
