Letters from Panduranga (2015)
Vietnamese with English subtitles | DV | Colour and Sound | 35 min
At the border of documentary and fiction, shifting between foreground and background, portraits and landscapes, Nguyễn’s film essay Letters from Panduranga was prompted by the Vietnamese government’s plans to build the country’s first nuclear power plants in Ninh Thuan. Formerly known as Panduranga, this is the spiritual heartland of the Cham people, whose 2,000-year-old matriarchal Hindu culture faces perpetual threats.
