An exercise in deep listening to the sounds of a fading oral tradition, Nguyễn Trinh Thi’s Landscape #4: How to Improve the World explores the differences between the memory of the eye and that of the ear. The film observes the loss of land, forests and life-ways of indigenous people in the central highlands of Vietnam, a terrain drastically transformed by Christianisation, war and socialism.
