The Istanbul rendition of IQRA seeks to connect and contextualize the experiences and practices of Bruno Taut, Danarto, and Emin Barın that took place in neither of their hometowns where each of them resided for a brief amount of time yet affecting their future practices, Kyoto in the cases of Bruno Taut and Danarto. Upon research and multiple conversations, this old capital of Japan served as a locus where the artistic learnings and creative awakenings of Danarto and Bruno Taut perplexingly intersected. And, for Emin Barın, whose practice is grounded in the modernizing and secularizing period of Turkey under Kemal Ataturk, it is Leipzig that has such significance. This session will seek to explore these meeting points through visual and material concurrences of each of these figures in, perhaps, a perplexing yet fascinating conversation.

IQRA with Danarto dkk have been conducted in forms of assemblies, seminars, presentations, discussions, lectures, talks, and endless conversations amongst people who are interested in expanding thoughts through Danarto’s practice. Facilitated by members of Danarto dkk, the program also functions as moments of pausing from their research mode of work and making their findings accessible to more curious people.
